1Abstract
We make every song over many rounds with an AI music app. In each round we write what we want to hear, the app plays back what it made, and we listen. Then we change the words or the settings and try again. When one version is right, we master it for streaming. This song took 6 rounds and 10 renders over 70 minutes. A render is one full version of the song the app plays back, and one round can return more than one. The charts below call each round a submission, one for every time we sent the app a prompt. We wrote the style prompt, which describes the sound, 5 ways and the lyrics 3 ways before we kept one render.
The song was made in Suno. The delivered master measures −11.84 LUFS integrated. Its true peak is −3.72 dBTP, and every streaming decode measured stays under the −0.50 dBTP ceiling. Loudness range is 8.7 LU.

Date read from: Suno's record for clip 9305a699, created 2026-02-26 22:00 UTC.
| Final render | Clip 9305a699. A Suno Studio export, titled "Lucid Dream (Slightly mastered)", created 2026-02-26 22:00 UTC, 256.089 s. The raw file the mastering script reads carries this clip's id in its embedded Suno comment and is 12,289,920 samples at 48 kHz, 256.04 s, shorter than the clip's recorded 256.089 s; the delivered master is 12,292,275 samples, 256.089 s, which matches the recorded length. The title carries the words 'Slightly mastered', and two records disagree about it. The April build ledger says the stems had Suno Studio EQ baked in. The engineer's later measurement found no baked EQ curve in the file, and its report records the owner's confirmation that the downloads were raw. 8 of the renders counted here are assigned on shared lyrics and working time, since we work on one song at a time and titles differ. Counted here and made after this take: 1 render (2f2ce0a2). Step 5 → |

5Mastering
| Mastering | Thin Veil Records' proprietary mastering process, run on our own machine by an AI agent. The process is model-agnostic; any capable language model can run it. Every value measured by script. Approved by ear before release. |

| Mastered on | 2026-10-02 |
| Brief | The brief, as the engineer's report and scripts state it: master from the raw 2-track into the .TJ. lane band (-9.5 +/- 0.5 LUFS-I, true peak at or under -1.0 dBTP), carrying the lane line "for TJ, we want the bass felt and the vocals clear" and the album intent "fusion not selection; big-room and heart-pounding bass is the non-negotiable", with every setting derived from the track's own measurements. The engineer worked from the raw mix; the stems were measured against it and not used in the master. The dispatch text itself is not on disk. The delivered file is that remaster after album balancing, a head and tail match to the earlier master and one uniform release trim of -1.75 dB. Originally released with an earlier master. The earlier version of this master, built in spring 2026, carried processing aimed at AI-detection models: per-stem phase reconstruction on every stem, in a heavier two-pass form with added magnitude jitter on some of them (the stems Suno labeled Lead Vocals and Other), an AAC round trip on each stem, a noise bed at 8 to 16 kHz on those same stems, and a reference match to a commercial track. Our build record does not fully reconstruct the shipped chain. That work ended on 2026-08-14. This remaster works from the raw Suno mix and carries none of it. Replaced by Audio Swap on 2026-10-02. When checked on 2026-10-30, Apple's and Spotify's previews matched this master. |

- Mastering chain, 2026-09-16, run by script on the raw 2-track (48 kHz, 16-bit). Re-running the script on 2026-10-30 reproduced the mastered file sample for sample.
- High-pass, 2nd-order Butterworth at 22 Hz, with a clean gain of +5.61 dB.
- Peaking filters: -1.0 dB at 282 Hz (Q 1.1), -1.6 dB at 520 Hz (Q 0.8), -1.0 dB at 1010 Hz (Q 1.6), +2.2 dB at 2550 Hz (Q 0.9).
- Low-band saturation below 100 Hz: 4x oversampled asymmetric tanh, drive 2.0, bias 0.08, only the added difference kept.
- High shelf at 13000 Hz, +1.8 dB (S 0.7).
- Tape-style emphasis saturation: 5 kHz emphasis of +/-4 dB, drive 0.6, asymmetry 0.1, 4x oversampled.
- Soft clipper at -1.9 dBFS, 0.5 dB knee, 4x oversampled, residual low-passed at 9 kHz; active for 12.8 s.
- True-peak limiter: ceiling -2.1 dBTP, 1.5 ms look-ahead, release 30 dB/s. Gain reduction peaks at 1.61 dB; 2.24 s above 1 dB, none above 3 dB.
- DC block: zero-phase 2nd-order high-pass at 5 Hz with reflected padding. True-peak safety clip at -1.0 dBTP (4x oversampled, binary-searched): not engaged.
- Head: digital zero to 12 ms, then a raised-cosine fade to 90 ms. Tail: 300 ms raised-cosine fade to exact zero from 255.74 s. TPDF dither to 24-bit (seed 20260916), zero where the fade gain is zero.
- The file landed at -9.99 LUFS-I.
- Album balancing, 2026-10-01 (script): no move; the file passed through unchanged.
- Head and tail matched to the earlier master, 2026-10-01 (script): the file was aligned to the earlier master by a median lag of 47.2 ms and set to its sample count, then the earlier master's music-band envelope (100 Hz to 1.5 kHz, 50 ms windows every 5 ms), relative to its body, was imposed on the first and last 20 s (full authority to 20 s, raised-cosine ramp over the next 2 s). Gains were limited to -60 dB and +24 dB, boosts were capped so no local peak rose above 0.3 dB under the source's true peak, and digital silence was kept in the first and last 3 s where the earlier master's music band is below -100 dBFS. Quantized to 24-bit by rounding, first and last sample zero.
- Release trim, 2026-10-02 (script): one clean linear gain of -1.75 dB on every track of the album (measured -1.750 dB), TPDF dither to 24-bit, first and last sample zero. LUFS-I -10.09 to -11.84, true peak -1.97 to -3.72 dBTP. Every streaming decode of the finished file is at or under -0.5 dBTP.
- Delivery, 2026-10-02 (script): written as a 24-bit, 48 kHz WAV with industry INFO tags and a bext chunk and no encoder signature. The audio is bit-exact with the trimmed file, and the delivered file is the one measured here. Re-running the balancing, match, refine and trim scripts on 2026-10-30 reproduced the trimmed files sample for sample.
| Move | Because | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Peaking filters at 282 Hz (-1.0 dB), 520 Hz (-1.6 dB) and 1010 Hz (-1.0 dB). | Measured humps of +7.2 and +8.2 dB at 251 and 282 Hz, +9.6 and +9.1 dB at 503 and 565 Hz, and +7.7 dB at 1008 Hz. The brief asked for 'vocals clear'. | |
| Peaking filter at 2550 Hz, +2.2 dB. | A broad dip of -4.1 to -4.6 dB at 2.26 to 2.85 kHz against a vocal ratio of -11.9 dB. A wide dip got a wide bell. The vocal ratio rose 1.47 dB. | |
| Low-band saturation below 100 Hz at drive 2.0. | The 44, 50 and 56 Hz region measured +13.4, +10.9 and +12.2 dB and is what drives this mix's peaks. The stage rounds those peaks. Drives of 1.4 and 2.6 were rendered and measured; 2.0 was chosen as the one that rounds the peaks without thinning the sub. | Sub fell 0.74 dB at this stage, the intended rounding. |
| High shelf of +1.8 dB at 13 kHz, and no cut at 9 to 11 kHz. | The top falls above 12.8 kHz (-4.2 dB at 14.4 kHz, -9.1 dB at 16.1 kHz). The shelf sits at 13 kHz so it does not push the 9 to 11.4 kHz element, already at +7.7 dB. | A cut at 9 to 11 kHz was considered and rejected; the engineer read that element as sitting where a sustained vocal's air lives (an inference from measurement; the engineer does not listen). It was left in. |
| Limiter ceiling of -2.1 dBTP and the soft clipper at -1.9 dBFS. | Lower limiter ceilings of -2.4 and -2.8 dBTP were rendered: Vorbis 96 cleared (+0.01 and -0.25), but ducking worsened and limiting above 1 dB ran 16.2 s and 65.8 s. A clipper at -1.5 dBFS pushed 10.55 s of work onto the limiter. | The earlier loudness target left a Vorbis 96 decode over the ceiling; that was closed later by the release trim. |
| Head and tail matched to the earlier master. | The script's stated job is to impose the earlier master's head and tail music envelope, relative to its body, on each remaster. | |
| Release trim of -1.75 dB, the same on all 11 tracks. | Gate A, the label's check that every streaming decode sits at or under -0.5 dBTP. The balanced and matched file overshot it: 2 of its 3 decodes (Opus 128, Vorbis 96, AAC 256) were above the line, the worst at +0.20 dBTP (our re-measurement of 2026-10-30). The script records the instruction of 2026-10-02: "if it needs to be done, then do it". | 1.75 dB of loudness. The delivered file measures -11.84 LUFS-I. |
| The 9 to 11.4 kHz element was left in (a cut was considered and rejected). |
| No broadband compressor: every setting tried ducked 2 to 8 kHz by 9.0 to 15.4 dB at the 0.5th percentile. |
| No width processing; correlation 0.904 to 0.909 (source to chain output), 0.906 in the delivered file. |
| No added noise bed, spectral reference matching or codec round trip in the audio path (dither and the head and tail envelope match excepted). |
