1Abstract

We make every song over many rounds with an AI music app. In each round we write what we want to hear, the app plays back what it made, and we listen. Then we change the words or the settings and try again. When one version is right, we master it for streaming. This song took 57 rounds and 107 renders over 18 days. A render is one full version of the song the app plays back, and one round can return more than one. The charts below call each round a submission, one for every time we sent the app a prompt. We wrote the style prompt, which describes the sound, 19 ways and the lyrics 29 ways before we kept one render.

The song was made in Suno v5. The delivered master measures −12.02 LUFS integrated. Its true peak is −4.01 dBTP, and every streaming decode measured stays under the −0.50 dBTP ceiling. Loudness range is 4.7 LU.

[Spoken Word Verse 1]
So then
If you awaken from this illusion
And you understand that black implies white
Self implies other
Life implies death
Or shall I say death implies life
You can feel yourself
Not as a stranger in the world
Not as something here on probation
Not as something that has arrived here by fluke
But you can begin to feel your own existence as absolutely fundamental

[Spoken Word Verse 3]
The actors have a conspiracy
They're going to try and persuade the audience that what is happening on the stage is for real
Think what the cosmic actor can do
He can take himself in completely

You've acted it so damn well that you know this is the real world

A spoken word philosophical lecture set against a minimalist, atmospheric ambient backdrop. The track features a clear, articulate male voice with a British accent, delivered with a calm and rhythmic cadence. The musical accompaniment consists of a deep, sustained sub-bass drone that provides a grounding foundation, paired with ethereal, shimmering synthesizer pads that swell and fade to create a sense of vastness and introspection. Subtle, organic textures and occasional low-frequency pulses enhance the meditative quality. The production is clean and spacious, utilizing long reverb tails and a wide stereo field to immerse the listener. The tempo is slow and fluid, following the natural rhythm of the speech rather than a fixed beat. The overall mood is intellectual, serene, and transcendent.
[Spoken Word]
So then
If you awaken from this illusion
And you understand that black implies white
Self implies other
Life implies death
Or shall I say death implies life
You can feel yourself
Not as a stranger in the world
Not as something here on probation
Not as something that has arrived here by fluke
But you can begin to feel your own existence as absolutely fundamental
What you are basically
Deep, deep down, far, far in
Is simply the fabric and structure of existence itself
Let's suppose that you were able every night to dream any dream you wanted to dream
And that you could, for example, have the power within one night to dream seventy-five years of time
Or any length of time you wanted to have
And you would naturally, as you began on this adventure of dreams, you would fulfill all your wishes
You would have every kind of pleasure you could conceive
And after several nights of seventy-five years of total pleasure each
You would say, "Well, that was pretty great."
But now let's, let's have a surprise
Let's have a dream which isn't under control
Where something is going to happen to me that I don't know what it's going to be
And you would dig that and come out of that and say, "Wow, that was a close shave, wasn't it?"
And then you would get more and more adventurous
And you would make further and further out gambles as to what you would dream
And finally, you would dream where you are now
You would dream the dream of living the life that you are actually living today
That would be within the infinite multiplicity of choices you would have
Of playing that you weren't God
When you come into the theater
There is a proscenium arch and a stage and down there is the audience
And everybody assumes their seats in the theater and are going to see a comedy, a tragedy, a thriller, or whatever it is
And they all know as they come in and pay their admission that what is going to happen on the stage is not for real
But the actors have a conspiracy against this because they're going to try and persuade the audience that what is happening on the stage is for real
They want to get everybody sitting on the edge of their chairs
They want to get you terrified or crying or laughing
Absolutely captivated by the drama
And if a skillful human actor can take in an audience and make people cry
Think what the cosmic actor can do
Why, he can take himself in completely
He can play so much for real that he really believes it is
Like you sitting in this room, you think you're really here
Why, you've persuaded yourself that way
You've acted it so damn well that you know this is the real world
But you're playing it
It's because the audience and the actor is one
Because behind the stage there's the green room
Off-scene, obscene
Where the actors take off their masks
You know that the word person means mask?
The persona, which is the mask worn by actors in Greco-Roman drama
Because it has a megaphone-type mouth which throws the sound out in an open-air theater
So per-sona, what the sound comes through
That's the mask
How to be a real person, how to be a genuine fake
A mask
So the dramatis personae at the beginning of a play is the list of masks that the actors will wear
And so in the course of forgetting that this life is a drama
The word for the role, the word for the mask, has come to mean who you are genuinely
The person
The proper

[Chorus - vocal chops, echo, repeating]
Absolutely fundamental
What you are basically
Deep deep down far far in
Is simply the fabric and structure of existence itself
The fabric and structure of existence itself
Existence itself
Existence itself
[Verse 2 - spoken word, tempo driving]
Let's suppose that you were able every night to dream any dream you wanted to dream
And that you could for example have the power within one night to dream seventy-five years of time
And you would naturally as you began on this adventure of dreams you would fulfill all your wishes
You would have every kind of pleasure you could conceive
And after several nights of seventy-five years of total pleasure each
You would say well that was pretty great
But now let's have a surprise
Let's have a dream which isn't under control
Where something is going to happen to me that I don't know what it's going to be
And you would dig that and come out of that and say wow that was a close shave wasn't it
And then you would get more and more adventurous
And you would make further and further out gambles as to what you would dream
[Chorus 2 - hook locks in, vocal chop and delay]
And finally you would dream where you are now
You would dream where you are now
Dream where you are now
Dream where you are now
The dream of living the life that you are actually living today
You are actually living today
Living today
[Bridge - stripped back, single voice, weight]
That would be within the infinite multiplicity of choices you would have
Of playing that you weren't God
[Drop - silence then full production]
Playing that you weren't God
Playing that you weren't God
[Verse 3 - theater metaphor, building intensity]
When you come into the theater
There is a proscenium arch and a stage and down there is the audience
And everybody assumes their seats and are going to see a comedy a tragedy a thriller
And they all know as they come in and pay their admission that what is going to happen on the stage is not for real
But the actors have a conspiracy against this
Because they're going to try and persuade the audience that what is happening on the stage is for real
They want to get everybody sitting on the edge of their chairs
They want to get you terrified or crying or laughing
Absolutely captivated by the drama
[Build - vocal stacking, layers]
And if a skillful human actor can take in an audience and make people cry
Think what the cosmic actor can do
The cosmic actor
The cosmic actor
Why he can take himself in completely
He can play so much for real that he really believes it is
[Chorus 3 - full power, all hooks converge]
Like you sitting in this room you think you're really here
You've persuaded yourself that way
You've acted it so damn well that you know this is the real world
But you're playing it
You're playing it
You're playing it
Dream where you are now
You're playing it
[Outro - deconstructing, words falling apart]
The audience and the actor is one
The audience and the actor is one
Because behind the stage there's the green room
Where the actors take off their masks
The word person means mask
Persona
Per sona
What the sound comes through
A genuine fake

How to be a real person
How to be a genuine fake
[Final - isolated, fading]

[Verse 1 - spoken word, no singing]
So then
If you awaken from this illusion
And you understand that black implies white
Self implies other
Life implies death
Or shall I say death implies life
You can feel yourself
Not as a stranger in the world
Not as something here on probation
Not as something that has arrived here by fluke
But you can begin to feel your own existence as absolutely fundamental
[Chorus - spoken word, vocal chop, no singing]
The fabric and structure of existence itself
Existence itself
Existence itself
[Verse 2 - spoken word, no singing]
Let's suppose that you were able every night to dream any dream you wanted to dream
And you would get more and more adventurous
And you would make further and further out gambles as to what you would dream
And finally you would dream where you are now
The dream of living the life that you are actually living today
Of playing that you weren't God
[Chorus - spoken word, vocal chop, no singing]
The fabric and structure of existence itself
Existence itself
Existence itself
[Verse 3 - spoken word, no singing]
The actors have a conspiracy
They're going to try and persuade the audience that what is happening on the stage is for real
Think what the cosmic actor can do
He can take himself in completely
He can play so much for real that he really believes it is
You've acted it so damn well that you know this is the real world
But you're playing it

[Spoken Word Verse 3]
The actors have a conspiracy
They're going to try and persuade the audience that what is happening on the stage is for real
Think what the cosmic actor can do
He can take himself in completely
He can play so much for real that he really believes it is
You've acted it so damn well that you know this is the real world
But you're playing it

So then
If you awaken from this illusion
And you understand that black implies white
Self implies other
Life implies death
Or shall I say death implies life
You can feel yourself
Not as a stranger in the world
Not as something here on probation
Not as something that has arrived here by fluke
But you can begin to feel your own existence as absolutely fundamental

And you would get more and more adventurous

And finally you would dream where you are now

A minimalist, groove-driven track with sparse drums, warm electric piano, and subtle bass creating a hypnotic pocket. All vocals are delivered as rhythmically precise spoken word—dry and unembellished—layered over an understated, atmospheric backdrop for tension and texture.

[Spoken Word Verse 1]
So then
If you awaken from this illusion
And you understand that black implies white
Self implies other
Life implies death
Or shall I say death implies life
You can feel yourself
Not as a stranger in the world
Not as something here on probation
Not as something that has arrived here by fluke
But you can begin to feel your own existence as absolutely fundamental

[Spoken Word Verse 2]
Let's suppose that you were able every night to dream any dream you wanted to dream
And you would get more and more adventurous
And you would make further and further out gambles as to what you would dream
And finally you would dream where you are now
The dream of living the life that you are actually living today
Living today
Living today

[Spoken Word Verse 3]
The actors have a conspiracy
They're going to try and persuade the audience that what is happening on the stage is for real
Think what the cosmic actor can do
He can take himself in completely
He can play so much for real that he really believes it is
You've acted it so damn well that you know this is the real world
But you're playing it

5Mastering

MasteringThin Veil Records' proprietary mastering process, run on our own machine by an AI agent. The process is model-agnostic; any capable language model can run it. Every value measured by script. Approved by ear before release.
Mastered on2026-10-02
BriefThe brief, as the engineer's report and scripts state it: master from the raw 2-track into the .TJ. lane band (-9.5 +/- 0.5 LUFS-I, true peak at or under -1.0 dBTP), carrying the lane brief "bass felt and the vocals clear" and, as the chain script words the album intent, fusion, big-room, heart-pounding bass, with every setting derived from the track's own measurements. The engineer worked from the raw mix; the stems were measured against it and not used in the master. The dispatch text itself is not on disk. The delivered file is that remaster after album balancing, a head and tail match to the earlier master and one uniform release trim of -1.75 dB. Originally released with an earlier master. The earlier version of this master, built in spring 2026, carried processing aimed at AI-detection models: per-stem phase reconstruction on every stem, an AAC round trip on each stem, and a reference match to a commercial track. Our build record does not fully reconstruct the shipped chain. That work ended on 2026-08-14. This remaster works from the raw Suno mix and carries none of it. Replaced by Audio Swap on 2026-10-02. When checked on 2026-10-30, Apple's and Spotify's previews matched this master.
Figure 3. Codec safety. True peak in dBTP of the delivered file, against the label's file ceiling of −1.00 dBTP, and of each streaming codec's round trip, against the decode ceiling of −0.50 dBTP (the colored lines). 4 of 4 measurements clear their ceiling.

Figure 4. Signal chain, in processing order, as applied to the final render.
  1. Mastering chain, 2026-09-16, run by script on the raw 2-track (48 kHz, 16-bit). Re-running the script on 2026-10-30 reproduced the mastered file sample for sample.
  2. High-pass, 2nd-order Butterworth at 20 Hz, with a clean gain of +4.43 dB.
  3. Peaking filters: +1.5 dB at 98 Hz (Q 1), +1.5 dB at 3000 Hz (Q 0.9).
  4. Low-band saturation below 110 Hz: 4x oversampled asymmetric tanh, drive 1.8, bias 0.08, only the added difference kept.
  5. High shelf at 13000 Hz, +3.0 dB (S 0.7).
  6. Tape-style emphasis saturation: 5 kHz emphasis of +/-4 dB, drive 0.55, asymmetry 0.1, 4x oversampled.
  7. Soft clipper at -2.3 dBFS, 0.8 dB knee, 4x oversampled, residual low-passed at 9 kHz; active for 12.7 s.
  8. True-peak limiter: ceiling -2.0 dBTP, 1.5 ms look-ahead, release 35 dB/s. Gain reduction peaks at 1.13 dB; 0.022 s above 1 dB, none above 3 dB.
  9. DC block: zero-phase 2nd-order high-pass at 5 Hz with reflected padding. True-peak safety clip at -1.0 dBTP (4x oversampled, binary-searched): not engaged.
  10. Head: digital zero to 40 ms, then a raised-cosine fade to 130 ms. Tail: 500 ms raised-cosine fade to exact zero. TPDF dither to 24-bit (seed 20260916), zero where the fade gain is zero.
  11. The file landed at -9.95 LUFS-I.
  12. Album balancing, 2026-10-01 (script): one clean linear gain of -0.30 dB, TPDF dither to 24-bit. LUFS-I -9.95 to -10.25, true peak -1.96 to -2.26 dBTP.
  13. Head and tail matched to the earlier master, 2026-10-01 (script): the file was aligned to the earlier master by a median lag of 45.3 ms and set to its sample count, then the earlier master's music-band envelope (100 Hz to 1.5 kHz, 50 ms windows every 5 ms), relative to its body, was imposed on the first and last 20 s (full authority to 20 s, raised-cosine ramp over the next 2 s). Gains were limited to -60 dB and +24 dB, boosts were capped so no local peak rose above 0.3 dB under the source's true peak, and digital silence was kept in the first and last 3 s where the earlier master's music band is below -100 dBFS. Quantized to 24-bit by rounding, first and last sample zero.
  14. Release trim, 2026-10-02 (script): one clean linear gain of -1.75 dB on every track of the album (measured -1.750 dB), TPDF dither to 24-bit, first and last sample zero. LUFS-I -10.27 to -12.02, true peak -2.26 to -4.01 dBTP. Every streaming decode of the finished file is at or under -0.5 dBTP.
  15. Delivery, 2026-10-02 (script): written as a 24-bit, 48 kHz WAV with industry INFO tags and a bext chunk and no encoder signature. The audio is bit-exact with the trimmed file, and the delivered file is the one measured here. Re-running the balancing, match, refine and trim scripts on 2026-10-30 reproduced the trimmed files sample for sample.
Table 1. Mastering decisions: each move, what it rests on, and its cost.
MoveBecauseTradeoff
Peaking filter at 98 Hz, +1.5 dB.A scoop of -1.8 to -2.9 dB at 88 to 111 Hz on a thin low end (13.9 percent of the energy). The filter sits in the scoop, not on the 49 to 79 Hz bump the source already has.
Peaking filter at 3.0 kHz, +1.5 dB.A dip at 2.5 to 3.5 kHz with a median of -1.19 dB. The brief asked for 'vocals clear', and the engineer treated the sampled spoken passage in the arrangement as the thing to protect.
High shelf of +3.0 dB at 13 kHz.The steepest high-frequency cliff of its batch: 15 to 16 kHz at -49.5 dB falling to -62.1 dB at 16 to 17 kHz.It is the largest air lift of the three tracks mastered in that session.
Mono-below at 90 Hz bypassed.Folding the sub bought 0.08 dB of mono fold-down and cost 0.080 of broadband correlation (0.705 to 0.785), which would put the album's widest track outside the 0.20 to 0.75 correlation gate. The master carries the source's own image: correlation 0.705, mono loss 0.74 dB.
Album balancing: -0.30 dB.A listening note: "there are some songs that sound louder than others though". Measured: +0.18 dB over the body median on the four-proxy headphone mean, and +1.37 dB louder relative to the album than the earlier album, the largest riser. The hand-off from Deja Vu was +2.1 and +2.6 dB over the earlier album.
Head and tail matched to the earlier master. The script's stated job is to impose the earlier master's head and tail music envelope, relative to its body, on each remaster.
Release trim of -1.75 dB, the same on all 11 tracks.Gate A, the label's check that every streaming decode sits at or under -0.5 dBTP. The balanced and matched file overshot it: 2 of its 3 decodes (Opus 128, Vorbis 96, AAC 256) were above the line, the worst at +0.23 dBTP (our re-measurement of 2026-10-30). The script records the instruction of 2026-10-02: "if it needs to be done, then do it".1.75 dB of loudness. The delivered file measures -12.02 LUFS-I.
Left untouched
No width processing; correlation 0.705 to 0.705 (source to chain output), 0.705 in the delivered file; mono loss 0.74 dB on the master against 0.73 on the source.
No low-band trim and no low-band compressor: both were rendered and rejected (the compressor cost 3.91 dB of sub, the trim 0.85 dB).
No broadband compressor.
No added noise bed, spectral reference matching or codec round trip in the audio path (dither and the head and tail envelope match excepted).
